The European Satellite Operators Association (ESOA)

The European Satellite Operators Association (ESOA) is a Brussels based trade association that promotes the interests of all European Satellite Operators. ESOA wishes to recruit a full-time Public Affairs / Policy Officer to support the Secretary General in carrying out the work of the Association with immediate effect.

Role
The Head of Public Affairs role is to identify, establish and maintain relationships with key public and private sector stakeholders and decision-makers at European, international, regional, national, and local government levels as necessary to promote and protect the interests of ESOA members. The successful candidate will also support the Secretary General and other ESOA staff directly in other activities, such as engagements with the broader ICT community and administrative activities and running the ESOA back-office.

Main Duties Include:

Public Affairs Support

  • Lead ESOA advocacy work to support visibility and engagement outside the satellite operator community in close cooperation with ESOA SG
  • Lead the delivery of internal and external policy meetings in coordination with ESOA SG
  • Engage within EU institutions and other institutions relevant to ESOA on relevant dossiers
  • Organise and lead meetings with senior EU directors, Members of European Parliament, other European and ITU Region 1 organisations
  • Monitor core subjects including attending hearings/ events/ meetings in European Parliament/ Council/ Commission: analysis and reporting
  • Read, analyse and summarise relevant EU documents/ publications, etc.
  • Develop positions autonomously or in cooperation with ESOA's resources
  • Support the Secretary General in preparing positions/ press releases/ presentations, etc. including support in coordinating views of members
  • Prepare project reporting documentation and Board presentations
  • Support actions resulting from ESOA Working Groups
  • Undertake periodic evaluation of own policy work

Logistics and Administrative support

 

  • Support the Secretary General in the organisation of board meetings, ESOA Dinners, events, travels etc.
  • Liaise with event manager/ venue – logistics management

Documentation Management, Website, Office Support and Admin

 

  • File of relevant official documents
  • Suggest website updates and liaise with webmaster
  • Maintain office supplies and general management

Yearly Objectives

  • Organise a number of events/ meetings per year with the Commission and other relevant bodies
  • Demonstrate impactful interactions with key stakeholders with respect to ESOA yearly priorities as defined by the Board

Person Specifications:

Essential

  • University degree in a relevant field (could be business/ legal/ political/ technical)
  • Good knowledge of EU affairs and understanding of workings of EU institutions
  • Results-oriented team player with ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong sense of ethics and commitment (long hours may be required on occasion)
  • Strong organisational skills, efficient time/task management as well as ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Effective presentation and persuasion skills
  • Excellent English language skills – oral and written
  • Good knowledge of French
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Computer literate (MS Office including word/ excel/ PowerPoint)
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel if required

Desirable

  • 36+ months experience in Brussels lobbying environment
  • 36+ months experience in analysing policy or legislative documents
  • Knowledge of satellite operators or telecoms sector
  • Experience of working with trade associations
  • Knowledge of other languages of the EMEA region is considered an additional asset
