Established in 1998, the European Competitive Telecommunications Association is the leading pan-European telecoms association promoting market liberalisation and competition in the European communications sector.  ECTA is a ‘Non for profit’ trade association seeking to promote and foster a regulatory environment for the European communications sector which supports free market competition and leads to political, social and economic benefits for all Europe’s businesses and consumers.

ECTA represents more than 100 communications service provider companies, including leaders in the following market segments throughout Europe.

ECTA, the trade association representing the interests of more than 100 competitive telecoms operators across Europe, is seeking a Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager to join its regulatory and public policy team in Brussels. 

This is an exciting time in the telecoms sector and the individual can expect to be engaging with influential policy-makers from European and national institutions and to contribute to debates on key issues such as the Digital Single Market Strategy and the revision of the European Telecoms Framework. 

The scope of the role will depend on the individual selected, but could include: 

  • Coordinating ECTA working groups or specific policy projects
  • Preparing briefings, policy positions and responses to relevant public consultations in collaboration with ECTA's members
  • Informing members of key policy and regulatory developments
  • Managing research projects, studies and benchmarking exercises
  • Representing ECTA at meetings, public hearings and conferences
  • Supporting ECTA members on major regulatory issues at national and European level
  • Managing relationships with and organizing meetings between representatives from EU institutions and ECTA members
  • Contributing to the arrangement of ECTA's flagship events such as the annual ECTA Regulatory Conference 

The post will report to the ECTA Executive Director.

Requirements include: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, other languages an asset
  • University degree in law or economics or similar and ideally also a postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as EU law/affairs, competition law or similar.
  • In depth knowledge of the application of regulation in the telecoms sector and/or adjoining sectors, preferably with at least 5 -7 years’ experience working for an operator or Government/regulator and with a background in law, economics or public policy.
  • Flexible and consensual approach - able to work well in a small team
  • Pro-active, able to work on own initiative 

There will be scope for the job holder to develop in post, broadening their skill-set and range of responsibilities.
